Artist Info
Bherman is a singsonger/soundscraper of Belgium/British descent who releases his fifth CD “Two Boys” this month, one year after his four star raved cd’s “Attitudes” (which contains the award nominated song “Babies”) and “The Other/63 (EMI 2003).
Bherman’s most recent undertaking “Two Boys” was in collaboration with a number of accomplished musicians in their own right including Jurgen “Kohn” de Blonde (Portables), Geert Simoen (ex Olla Vogola), and again ‘top double bassist’ Kristof Roseeuw. Previous recordings were made with members of Hooverphonic, Dead Man Ray, Flat Earth Society, and Arno.
Bherman had a quintessential array of early influences ranging from Thelonious Monk, Art Tatum and Garner, favorites of his fathers, to his mother’s musical idols, Jim Reeves, Nat King Cole, and Johnny Cash, and even to his sister’s love of the French pop stars of the ‘60’s.
His personal influences ranged from Nick Drake, Frank Zappa, Soft Machine, Traffic, to contemporary and electronic sounds, which may be found in his own work.
What does Bherman really sound like? It is very personal music in which everyday life, with its sounds and beats, co-mingles with his love of art, architecture, and visuals. “Two Boys” is homogenous and tight. The three ‘core’ musicians on this recording were practically inseparable until the CD’s completion and it is often very difficult to discern who is playing what, and vice versa.
Bherman is a diehard ‘persona eclectica’ with a strong foothold in rhythms, world sounds or electronic indie music, and in the unsolicited words of a my spacer: “Bherman kicks ass and takes names later” His personality and originality moves effortlessly and without any hesitation through ‘Two Boys’. This cd, without a doubt, should be added to the music collections of anyone seeking an original and fresh sound.
